“Extremely online” is usually an insult. Not so for screamo outfit gingerbee, who formed through a discord server and recorded their debut ep by file swaping. Pokemon samples, Bee Movie quotes and a pervasive sense of reddit course through “our skies smile.” But inspite (or maybe because) of the deep fried memeory, there’s a brilliant sense of melody and heart bursting at the edges. The harshest moments are mosh pit infernos, met and tempered by pastoral interludes featuring chiptune lullabies and a deep, welcoming calm. We talked with them below.
